Kate Swenson

Swenson wins Goldwater

Senior Kate Swenson received news that she has been selected as a Goldwater Scholar. Swenson has been researching at TU since the summer before her freshman year. One of her career aspirations is to bring clean water to developing nations. Last year she became the first U.S. student to be accepted into a prestigious program at Gdansk University of Technology in Gdansk, Poland, where she studied last spring.

A panel recently named Delta Delta Delta as TU’s Third Finest Organization in 2006-07. Tri Delta was the top Greek organization and trailed only Beta Alpha Psi and Habitat for Humanity. Consideration was given to many different aspects of each organization including Tri Delta’s strong philanthropic involvement.

Tri Delta finds success in other Greek philanthropy weeks

Watermelonfest 2007Girls in the Tri Delta house enjoy contributing to other Greek’s philanthropies. During the 2007-08 school year the house has enjoyed competing with other houses down the row and having an awesome time while participating. The girls took First Place in both the Lambda Chi Watermelon Fest (for the fourth year in a row) and Sigma Chi Derby Days (for the ninth year in a row) while placing second in Pi Kappa Alpha Pikefest and third Kappa Sigma Olympics. Contributions were made by every girl in the house throughout the year cheering for their sisters or participating in the events.

Tri Delta makes a basket for cancer

ST JUDEOver $22,000 was raised for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital during the 2007-08 school year by the Theta Upsilon chapter. The members showed an unwavering commitment to the sick children making bracelets and placemats in addition to raising money. The girls held a letter writing campaign as well as a midnight pancake breakfast at the end of the fall semester to benefit St. Jude. The spring semester brought the Hoops for Hope philanthropy week where an Italian style dinner was open to the entire campus. The following Saturday a charity basketball tournament was held with about 30 teams participating. This past July two members traveled to Memphis to visit and tour the hospital, and in October, 16 members traveled to see the hospital. Theta Upsilon was recognized on the Tri Delta website for the outstanding commitment shown by members to St. Jude and has been asked to present at National Convention this July.

Jennifer Song: College of Business Most Outstanding Senior & Recipient of College of Business’ Faculty Honor Medal

Recent alumna Jennifer Song was named College of Business Most Outstanding Senior and was also given the College of Business Faculty Honor Medal during her senior year. These awards recognize outstanding leadership and commitment to academics and involvement. The Honor Medal is given to the senior student in the College of Business who has the best cumulative GPA in Business coursework. 

Two Books Scheduled to Be Published authored by
Tri Delta seniors

Two recent graduates are scheduled to have books published soon. Megan McCune will have a book published about her world travels. Lindsey Long will have a book published about women’s health.

Relay for Life’s Second Most Spirited Team

Tri Delta entered two walking teams for Relay for Life this past spring. They had over 25 girls participate and were named the Second Most Spirited Team! Their theme for the event was “Wipe Out Cancer”. Numerous Tri Deltas served on the Planning Committee.

Research Presented to Faculty, Students, and Alumni, by Two Tri Deltas

Recent graduates Megan McCune and Lauren Robertson presented their research to alumni, faculty, and students during the spring semester. McCune’s researched female genital mutilation and the resulting physical and psychological effects on the individual and society. Robertson’s research dealt with the effects that involvement has in an individuals alcohol use and sexual promiscuity.

Two Outstanding Seniors and Two Top 10 Freshmen from Tri Delta are recognized at the Homecoming festivities

Lauren RobertsonRecent Graduates Lauren Robertson and Jennifer Song were named Outstanding Seniors by Omicron Delta Kappa. Juniors Kate Swenson and Recruitment Counselor were named Top 10 Freshmen during their sophomore year in Fall 2006. All four were honored during half time of the Homecoming Football Game.

Intramural Volleyball Team Goes Undefeated

The Tri Delta Dolphins intramural volleyball team ended the season undefeated during the winter season. The outstanding play of new and experienced players contributed to the team’s success.
