Description of IFC Formal Recruitment
Week
of New Student Orientation
All incoming
freshmen are strongly encouraged to attend New Student Orientation.
During the week of New Student Orientation, the Recruitment staff and
some temporarily disaffiliated fraternity men will be participating in
many of the Orientation activities and will be holding some
informational meetings about Formal Recruitment. Orientation is a great
way to meet a lot of new students, a chance to get to know the
Recruitment staff, and have Greek questions answered!
Greek Info session
at Orientation Camp
- The Recruitment Staff will be
attending Orientation Camp! During that time, there will be a
short informational and will be actively participating in the many
fun activities planned.
First Week of
Classes
Formal
Recruitment--Second weekend after classes begin:
This is when
the actual events begin! Formal Recruitment will last for three days.
Potential members are required to attend every event during this time.
The point of Formal Recruitment is to allow you and all five chapters to
get to know each other. It is fast-paced and full of information, so it
is important for you to keep notes and to also trust the process.
There may be a day
where you are not invited back to one of the chapters you wanted. But
if that is the case, it is important for you to still attend the events
to which you're assigned. Remember, the chapters that you will be
attending that day saw something in you that they thought would be a
great fit for their chapter.
All of our
fraternities are well rounded, respected, and great groups! Many
fraternity men have friends within all of the chapters, and you will
find that fraternity life at TU is not the stereotypical one often
portrayed in the media. Academics and Community Service are stressed
within all chapters. So, remember to come into the process with an open
mind and ready to have some fun!
Friday, Day 1 of
Recruitment, Five Events, 4:45-8:30pm
- Friday's events begin
with a group presentation in ACAC. This is a chance to learn about
fraternity life at TU, answer last minute questions, and get
organized for the evening. Every potential member will go to all
five houses during the evening. Each event will last 30 minutes.
RTFs will lead your group to and from each house. As you enter each
house you'll be greeted by a chapter member; this time is for you to
get to know each other. After the events have finished, the
potential members will come back to ACAC and rank all five chapters
in order of preference. Chapters will also make lists of Potential
members who they would like to invite back the next day. Once all
rankings and lists are in, we match up the lists and your schedule
for Day 2 is created
Saturday, Day 2 of
Recruitment, Four Parties, 12:00-3:30pm
On Saturday we will begin at noon in
the presidents formal lounge. From there we will have another short
presentation, and head for the fraternities by 12:20.
The freshmen will spend 45 mins at
each of the three houses they pref. We will return to ACAC between
3 and 3:30.
-
Saturday's
events begin again
with a short meeting and presentation. During this meeting you will
receive your schedule for the day and learn more about Greek Life.
PNMs will be invited to up to three chapters. Each event
will last 45 minutes.
If a potential member is invited to less than three, that's ok!
Even if you're invited to less than three, that doesn't mean that
you have less of a chance of being well-matched or that you are
liked less than others. A number of potential members are invited
to less than three on this day and are matched on Sunday to a
chapter.
After the parties have finished, the potential members will come
back to ACAC and rank all chapters attended that day in order of
preference. Chapters will make lists of all PNMs who attended their
events on Saturday who they would like to invite back the next day.
Once all rankings and lists are in, we match up the lists and your
schedule for Day 3 is created.
Sunday, Day 3 of
Recruitment, two events, 11:30am -2:00pm
Sunday's events begin again with a
short meeting. During his meeting you will receive your schedule for
the day. Potential members will be invited to up to two
chapters/events. Each event will last one hour.
If a potential member is invited to only one, that's ok! Remember, even
if you are invited to only one that doesn't mean that you have less of a
chance of being well-matched or that your liked less than others. Many
potential members invited to only one chapter on this day are matched on
Sunday afternoon to a great chapter.
After the parties have finished, the potential members will come back to
ACAC and rank all chapters attended that day in order of preference.
Chapters will make final lists as well. Once all rankings and lists are
in, we match up the lists with potential member’s preferences. Almost
all potential members receive a bid.
Sunday evening
-
During
evening events, held the evening of the third day of Formal
Recruitment, potential members will meet in ACAC to find out which
house has extended them a bid for membership. Once the invitations
are distributed, all men will go to the house from which they
received a bid! Each chapter will welcome new members.
