National Pan-Hellenic Recruitment
Welcome!
Welcome
to the most exciting era of your life: College! You chose one of
the greatest places to experience college life, The University
of Tulsa. It is a fair guess to say that you are being bombarded
with invitations to witness many different types of
organizations, groups, and events. Here is one more to add to
your list—but hopefully this one will be one you check out for
sure!
The
National Pan-Hellenic Council is a fairly new organization on
campus. This group represents the traditionally African American
fraternities and sororities. Represented on TU’s campus are:
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Zeta Phi
Beta Sorority, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and Omega Psi Phi
Fraternity. Although they are not represented at The University
of Tulsa at this time, members of Tulsa’s NPHC members on campus
have contacts of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi
Fraternity and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. It is simple to
contact these organizations and you will also see them at
functions on campus.
The
individual organizations that make up the NPHC hold similar
programs. All have fun community service projects that are
rewarding both to those who benefit from the project and the
participants. Each organization also sponsors monthly or
bimonthly get-togethers such as bible studies, health and
wellness classes, and open mic poetry nights. These are great
ways to meet new people and build strong friendships.
The NPHC
hosts programs much like those of its individual organizations,
only on a larger scale. For example, the 2006/2007 year opened
with a Block Party where guests could get a free meal and meet
the members of the NPHC. The NPHC teams up with the
traditionally white Greeks on campus and the Association of
Black Collegians to produce “Steppin’ Outside the Lines," an
incredible step show that is always one of the years largest
programs.
If
you’re interested in Greek Life here at the University of Tulsa,
it’s definitely a good idea to check out all of the things the
NPHC is doing. The organization is full of university leaders,
and is growing at a phenomenal pace, and you’ll want to be a
part of it!
Enjoy
your time at TU!
Yours,
Vanessa
