Kappa Delta has four philanthropies, the most of any Greek organization. Girl Scouts of the USA Prevent Child Abuse America The Children’s Hospital of Richmond, Virginia The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Research Awards We support the Girl Scouts by sponsoring events for young girls and women to learn, grow, and just have fun! Our last event was an Easter egg hunt for first grade brownies. They searched for eggs, had snacks, flew kites and played games. Erin Willis and Amy Brown are co-leaders of a second grade brownie troop. This partnership between Kappa Delta and the Girl Scouts only makes sense. Both organizations work to improve the lives of women everywhere by encouraging them to be their best selves… caring individuals, concerned citizens and community leaders. Kappa Delta has supported Prevent Child Abuse America since 1981. The organization was started by the late Donna Stone, a Kappa Delta. Each year our chapter holds a Shamrock Event that includes a dinner and a campus softball tournament to raise money for the organization. Twenty percent goes to the national Prevent Child Abuse America and the other eighty percent stays with the local branch, The Parent Child Center of Tulsa. In past years we have also helped the Center by volunteering for their annual Toyland Ball and helping our alums at their bunko tournament. The Children’s Hospital of Richmond, Virginia is Kappa Delta’s original philanthropy. Located near the founding chapter in Virginia, Kappa Delta helped get this small hospital off the ground. The hospital doesn’t turn away anyone for their inability to pay. Kappa Delta is still the primary sustaining supporter of the hospital and in recent years has donated enough money to build an operating room, create a clinic, and buy a van to transport patients. The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Research Awards are regarded by the Academy to be the highest recognition of excellence and promise in the field of orthopaedic research. Through the three $20,000 grants awarded each year Kappa Delta has given over one million to AAOS. |
