Finals have started at the university, so updates will be infrequent for the next week. But don’t worry, there will be lots of new game content added on the site afterwards, including a preview of a map for the mod!

Happy Winter-een-mas!

Posted on Friday 12 January 2007

A huge thanks to all the TU students that contributed money to the Child’s Play charity fund at our LAN parties. We have been awarded with Silver Sponsorship status at www.childsplaycharity.org (check out our banner!) thanks to your generous donations! Keep it up, we’d love to be sponsors again next winter!

The Winter-een-mas season is now in full effect, especially in light of the current weather conditions. Be careful driving, or better yet, stay inside, log on to X-Fire and just play videogames! Speaking of videogames, don’t forget about the next LanBrew hosted LAN party, check facebook for more information!

Shack-a-thon 2007

Posted on Thursday 5 April 2007

LanBrew participated in Shack-a-thon, an on-campus fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity run by the University of Tulsa’s Habitat for Humanity group. Participating groups donate money towards a Habitat house and then create shacks out of cardboard to get a feel for what it is like to live in substandard housing. LanBrew designed a XBox shack out of cardboard boxes and won the judge’s choice award!

Ready, GO!

Rome wasn’t built in a day, but our shack was!

X-box: actual size

We were too cheap to get the wireless model

Everyone adds their sig

Shack-a-thon is one of the coolest on-campus events all year - you should definitely participate, even if it isn’t with us!

Video Game night

Posted on Friday 6 April 2007

LanBrew’s final video game night of the semester is this SATURDAY, April 14 - classes are almost over and you need to take a break before dead week starts! Games will begin at 7pm in Twin South and will continue for 12 hours. As usual, free food and drinks will be provided and we encourage you to donate money to our Child’s Play fund. At this event we will have the usual PC LAN set up and a Wii on the first floor lobby TV. Also, we have rented SA’s new projector for organizations and will have an XBox 360 hooked up to it, potentially for a Gears of War tournament. Expect a lot more food at this LAN - ACM (http://orgs.utulsa.edu/acm/) is co-sponsoring this event! Thanks a lot guys!

Late news from the LAN

Posted on Tuesday 1 May 2007

At our last video game night of the semester, April 14, LanBrew raised $125.01! The single penny is a result of me cleaning my room while the donation box was still out (I threw a wandering penny in the donation box instead of my change bin). A big thanks to that special someone who donated $15 in quarters, as opposed to much larger quantities of dimes, nickles, pennies, half-pennies and IOUs. You know who you are. :)

I hope everyone had as much fun as the LanBrew officers did this year! Next year LanBrew will work on a larger campus presence and bigger, more organized, frequent and diverse events. If you are interested in joining the LanBrew development team or becoming a LanBrew officer, send an e-mail to lanbrew@utulsa.edu

Have a safe summer and keep xFire running (post your username in the forums)!

First LAN of the semester!

Posted on Wednesday 29 August 2007

LanBrew’s first LAN party of the semester is Friday, September 7th in the LaFortune lobby. Games will start at 8pm and continue for 12 hours! We will have a LAN for those who want to bring desktops as well a Wii and a XBox360. We will have a projector as well so look forward to some large screen gaming action!

As usual, we will provide pizza and carbonated drinks using our SA funds. In return, we ask that you contribute to LanBrew’s collection for the Child’s Play Charity. We try to raise $1000 every year, which comes to about $250 at each LAN - please help us reach that goal. To learn about Child’s Play, please visit www.childsplaycharity.org

Here are some of the games you can look forward to playing at the LAN - feel free to make recommendations. If you would like to lend us your console/TV for use during the LAN, we would appreciate it - we have officers awake and watching the equipment during the entire LAN so nothing will happen to it.

–PC–
UT2k4
Company of Heroes
Starcraft
Hegemonia
Call of Duty 2
FEAR Combat*
Savage*
* free to download

–Wii/Gamecube–
Super Smash Melee
Mario Party 8
Wario Ware Smooth Moves

–Xbox360–
Halo series
GOW
Guitar Hero

A note to PC users: LaFortune is a bit out of the way for most, so you might want to find someone that is going that has a car and ask them to help you haul your equipment over. If you arrive before 8pm, please do not set up your computer as we will still be arranging things and setting up the network.

Questions/want to help? e-mail lanbrew@utulsa.edu

Post-event update and 1st meeting information

Posted on Thursday 13 September 2007

A big thanks to everyone that showed up to video game night, we had a record breaking attendance of over 50 people and also set a record for collected donations! I am happy to say that we are well on our way to reaching or even surpassing our goal of raising $1000 for Child’s Play by December! We were overwhelmed by how many of you showed up and are excited about new possible events we can throw now that we have such an active membership!

On a more solemn note, some of you may have heard that some high school students on campus for the Jenks-Union football game stole a backpack of Wii controllers and games during the event. If you know anything about this please e-mail lanbrew@utulsa.edu. We are currently looking into different ways to prevent this from occurring ever again (other than avoiding scheduling an event the same night that hundreds of strangers will be on campus). In addition, some minor things were left at LaFortune. If you are
missing anything please send an e-mail with a description of the item and we will get it returned to you as soon as possible.

Speaking of membership, we encourage everyone to attend our first meeting of the semester this Saturday, September 15, at 1pm in LaFortune. We will talk about future events that are in the works as well as to get some feedback on the video game night. I know a lot of you have suggestions for games to play, and now that we’ll have everyone together we can vote on which ones to play! Also at this meeting, we will be holding officer elections for this school year - normally these are held in the Spring but they were delayed since SA allocations were pushed back from May to September. The offices are President, Vice President, Public Relations Officer, Treasurer and Event Coordinator. More information about these positions is on the “About LanBrew” page. Please send an e-mail to lanbrew@utulsa.edu if you are interested in running for an office(s) or want to hear more about the positions.
