This dedication echoes Dante's tribute to Provencal poet Arnault Daniel, which indicates that Eliot sees an association between himself and Alighieri, and perhaps "The Waste Land" and ''The Divine Comedy''.  This is an important point to remember for later references to ''The Divine Comedy'' in "The Waste Land."
