− | + | I read T.S. Eliot in high school a couple times; The Four Quartets, The Hollow Men, stuff like that, and while it's not a topic that necessarily leaves the reader with much hope, I think the overreaching theme of fragmentation throughout Eliot's works is one that shouldn't be overlooked just because it's not particularly pleasant. It's not the end of the discussion -- though the theme of fragmented identity and spirit is present in most of Eliot's works (at least those I've read), it is one that is addressed head-on; an issue Eliot finds himself struggling through, but one which he strives to find a resolution for. It's that strength to face an unhappy reality and find peace through that which I find so beautiful in Eliot's works, and one which I feel I can apply in my own life. | |
