Step one: Select the Apple Menu located in the top left corner of your screen and click "System Preferences"
Step Two: The Systems Preferences application should now be open. From here, select the icon labeled "International"
Step Three: You should see a window that looks similar to this one. Notice the list of languages on the left, if you do not see ???????, you will need to add it by clicking the "Edit..." button just to the right.
Once you click this button, you may have to scroll down a long list of languages to find Russian. While your here, it is a good idea to turn off any other languages you do not want displayed on your computer. This may cause your computer to run a bit faster by not having to load lots of different language characters into memory. Once you have found and and checked ???????, press "OK" to close the window.
Step Four: Now click on the "Input Menu" button. This will bring up another long list of languages. Scroll through until you find Russian and check the box next to it. Also look for a an entry on the list called "Keyboard Viewer". This is important as it will allow you to open a window with a picture showing the layout of the keyboard, just incase you don't know the Cyrillic keyboard layout.
Step Five: Now you may quit System Preferences. If you have done everything correct in the steps above, you should now see an icon of the US flag next to your clock. If you click on it, you will see a menu similar to the one before. If you want to type in Russian, simply click here and select Russian. Also, if you want to change between the two keyboards quickly, instead of using your mouse, you can simply press hold down the Apple key (command key), then press the Space Bar. This will toggle between Standard English and Russian.
