You may have noticed with the last posting that we’re making a small change to how we present information about the collections, and specifically new acquisitions. We are going to be acknowledging more clearly the donors who have made these acquisitions possible.
I should point out that our collections are based on either donations “in kind”, or through money that has been given to the University for use in the department, usually for acquisitions. No money from the Library’s annual funds are spent on Special Collections acquisitions. With the gifts in kind, acknowledgments are generally straightforward – “this item was donated by that person.” With financial contributions, things get a little cloudier regarding cause and effect. There are occasional individual gifts to support specific purchases, such as the most recent gift by Rita Newman, and numerous gifts by Ben Graf and Ellen Hennecke over the years. We have at times in the past few years have used funds made available to us by the J. A. Chapman and Leta M. Chapman Trust, and at least once, The Mary K. Chapman Foundation. However, the majority of the money we have used in the past few years to acquire things has been through the membership fees in the McFarlin Fellows. It is difficult to acknowledge the individual gifts there, particularly since financial contributions are handled through the Office of Institutional Advancement, and the Director of Development for McFarlin Library, Calvin Moniz, at (918) 631-3733 or via e-mail at calvin-moniz@utulsa.edu.
Another aspect of donation I would like to acknowledge are our volunteers, past and present, who have given their time and skills to make some of our projects actually happen.

I was actually just in the Tower when you came in. If I’m not there next time, ask her to call my cell phone.
