Student Life

When it comes to quality of life and happy students, the University of Tulsa is known for its excellence. One of the most common comments we receive from visitors to our campus is how friendly everyone is. They're not the only ones who notice, either. The Princeton Review ranked the University of Tulsa as 6th in the United States and Canada for the "Best quality of life" and 8th for "Happiest students."

Our diverse student body means that no matter what you are interested in, others will be too! With hundreds of different student organizations, no matter what you are into there's something at Tulsa for you. On top of that, Tulsa students enjoy state-of-the-art work-out facilities, a variety of on- and off-campus dining options, and plenty of green space to play intramural sports or just hang out. We don't like to brag, but our on-campus living is probably some of the best around, too. When you come to visit us, we'll show you what we mean.

Academics

The University of Tulsa is regularly listed among the top 100 schools by U.S. News and World Report and receives many other top honors from college-ranking services. We are organized into a graduate school and four colleges: arts and sciences, business administration, engineering and natural sciences and law. What does this mean for you? Don't worry if you aren't sure what major to choose. With the breadth of our curriculum, you are guaranteed a top-notch education no matter what field you end up in.

Tulsa students are some of the best out there. Ten percent of our students are National Merit Finalists as of 2007. In the last few years, students have received over 100 national competitive scholarships or fellowships. Our students are so successful due in part to our low student to faculty ratio of 11 to 1 and average class size of 19. These are just some of the reasons we are known for our warm, student-focused atmosphere.

To top it all off, the university emphasizes cultural diversity both here and abroad. We send dozens of our students abroad to study in the country of their choice each year. We partner with several universities all over the world to make sure your transition to a semester abroad is as seamless as possible. When you visit, be sure to ask about the Office of Study Abroad.

Just ask any of our Ambassadors and we'll tell you: Tulsa is the perfect place to receive a high-quality, personalized education. The facts speak for themselves and we'll back them up personally.

Athletics

In our first year in Conference USA, The University of Tulsa's Golden Hurricane "Took Conference USA by Storm" with the amazing achievement of four conference championships, and the students were there every step of the way. Students receive free admission to all Golden Hurricane home games. When the TU football team was invited to the Liberty Bowl on New Year's Eve in Memphis, alumni arranged travel packages and provided free student tickets. A Liberty Bowl victory was the perfect reason for TU students to celebrate by ringing in the New Year at a private block party on Memphis's historic Beale Street. Students also followed the action of the women's basketball team with free travel to the Conference USA championship. New facilities, national coverage, and competition against top teams make cheering on TU's 18 NCAA Division-I sports that much more exciting.

The city of Tulsa

Location. Location. Location. The University of Tulsa knows this phrase well. The city is located in the Heartland of America within easy driving distance of Dallas and St. Louis. With a metropolitan area of nearly 1 million people, Tulsa provides the opportunities of a larger city with the warmth of a smaller town. Historic Cain's Ballroom regularly attracts well-known concert tours. If you're looking for shopping and dining, the relaxed Cherry Street, charming Utica Square, and trendy Brookside districts near campus are full of character. The Woodland Hills, Promenade, and The Farm shopping centers offer any store you could want. Enjoy the outdoors? You'll fall in love with the area's mild weather and 6,000 acres of parks, including the Riverside system of trails along the Arkansas River. Take in some culture at two nationally recognized art museums and the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, Opera, or Ballet, or cheer on three local sports teams. End the day with some fun at the recently revived Blue Dome District, which features everything from Irish pubs to dance clubs.
