Hello everyone, my name is Elizabeth Hartney and I'm a senior English/French major. I have changed my major a few times in the past few years and up until very recently, I was a French/Secondary Education major. I had chosen French because I have a passion for the language and have studied it for many years but my decision to study Education was more based in trying to find something practical to accompany my French major. I went abroad to Nantes, France last semester and worked in a teaching internship in which I taught English to French schoolchildren and immediately realized teaching was not for me. I came home and decided to switch to English because I have taken some literature courses while at TU and I love reading and writing. I plan to go to graduate school for French and I think an additional English major will make me a more desirable candidate when I am filling out applications. I decided to take this course in particular because my schedule is full of classes that study older English texts and I thought something more recent would offset those courses. I also have very little prior knowledge about World War I and I think the class will be very informative from an historical perspective as well.
