Description
This medal was awarded to United States service men from the city of Roanoke Virginia for service in World War I. At the top of the medal is a single strip of copper colored metal with a pin on the back. on the front of that strip is the word "Victory" with a laurel branch. a rainbow colored band of cloth descends from this strip of metal, attaching it to the medal proper. The medal is the same color as the top band of metal. The body of the medal is a cross. In front of the cross is an eagle with wings outspread. Under the eagle's talon's lies the seal of Roanoke Virginia. Above the eagle's head flies a banner with the words, "WORLD WAR SERVICE." The words, "Presented by the city of Roanoke, VA, in grateful recognition of patriotic service in the World War 1917-1918."
