Annotation:
This item is a stereoscopic image of “Human Wreckage in No Man’s Land” in Chemin des Dames, France during the First World War. The image shows the body of a young man who remained where he died, fighting with the imaginary “honor” and “glory” of a soldier. He bears with him his faith; a crucifix lies around his neck. God sacrificed his son for all humanity, but the generation of father’s in WW1 sacrificed their sons for a cause that was anything but noble, as if they were simply chess pieces on a board; and easily replaced. The fallen men with no cause would leave a “Lost Generation” forever searching for purpose and the honor and glory of old. There was no life, for long, which remained in this wasteland, only death and destruction; not even weeds could stand to live there. The entire war was fought over gaining small strips of land such as this; further fueling the stalemate of an argument that was already lost.
