Description
Dimensions: 56 x 35.7 cm
Red Cross poster featuring larger than life-size image of Jesus Christ on a classical blue background. Christ's head is haloed by the Red Cross symbol. In front of Christ is a European Gothic style Cathedral and in the foreground is a dim, hazy scene of a World War I no-man's land strewn with injured men. A Red Cross nurse is helping a man up from the grim battlefield. The text below is part of the Bible verse "Inasmuch As Ye have Done It Unto One of the Least of These" from Matthew 25:20. The viewer is meant to be inspired to support the Red Cross in helping strangers, particularly soldiers, as it is likened to helping Christ himself. The bottom text, "Help Your Red Cross" is an imperative to the audience to fulfill a Christian directive. The overlapping imagery and cause of Jesus Christ and the Red Cross through shared iconography are intended to put religious pressure on any non-donors viewing the poster.
