Title
Join the brave throng that goes marching along
Subject
Recruitment: Military
Description
A poster created for the Parliamentary Recruiting Agency. In this poster, six young men smile in their uniforms above the text "Join the brave throng that goes marching along!" This rhyming phrase would likely stick in the memory of people long after they have passed by the poster. The men look very similar and represent an idealized version of the soldier. The poster does not have many details outside of these men's faces and does not depict even the men's entire bodies. The poster is focused on attracting men to the life they may lead if they join the war effort instead of calling them out for not joining the war, which is common in other war posters during this time. Through this method, the poster evokes a sort of masculine fantasy, in which men will look handsome and be happy if they join their fellow Briton. They will be worthy of being called "brave".
